The collection of withholding tax on non-cash banking transactions increased from Rs5.8 billion in the corresponding months of the last fiscal year, according to official statistics of Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Karachi. Sources said the ease in coronavirus restrictions during a couple of months in the period under review improved the commercial and industrial activities, which improved transactions in the banking system. The deposits of the banking system reached to a record high of Rs17.9 trillion by March 31.
